Statewide Program Expands to Allow Adults to Complete Associate Degree

Adults wanting to complete an associate degree now have a personalized, affordable and flexible option through the expansion of Reach Higher, Oklahoma’s degree completion program.

Reach Higher began in 2007, offering a Bachelor of Science in organizational leadership at nine regional universities. The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education recently approved an associate degree completion option that will offer an Associate in Arts and Associate in Science in enterprise development (general studies or business administration).

“The new Reach Higher associate degree program provides flexible options for adults with some college credit to complete their degrees,” said Chancellor Glen D. Johnson. “Students can earn an associate degree from one of Oklahoma’s two-year institutions while still balancing their family, work and financial obligations.”

The Reach Higher associate degree program is designed for students who have at least 18 hours of college credit and a 2.0 GPA from previous college credit and who have completed all required remedial coursework.

The community college and technical branch campuses that will offer the associate program include: Carl Albert State College, Connors State College, Eastern Oklahoma State College, Murray State College, Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College, Northern Oklahoma College, Oklahoma City Community College, Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology, Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City, Redlands Community College, Rose State College, Seminole State College, Tulsa Community College and Western Oklahoma State College.

As of December 2010, 115 students have earned degrees through the highly successful four-year Reach Higher program. Currently, the program has 329 students majoring in organizational leadership.

Classes will begin in January 2011, and the average cost for resident students is $90 per credit hour. For more information, call (800) 858-1840 or visit www.reachhigheroklahoma.org.
